Dieppe Barracks said...

From the late 1970's up until August 1989, Elizabeth worked at Dieppe Barracks, Sembawang. Sewing on buttons and mending clothing of the New Zealand Soldiers. She would be there everyday and would walk from barracks to barracks calling "sew sew, sew sew" so the boys would know she was about and they could just take their mending to her. thus she was know to the New Zealand soldiers based at Dieppe as Mrs Sew Sew. We all knew of her war heroics and good deeds within the community, she was our hero also. Mrs Sew Sew was THE ONLY female ever allowed into the New Zealand barracks mens quarters. Lest we Forget. Onward. from all the Kiwi Soldiers who served at Dieppe Barracks.

We have photos of her there if you care to email dieppe.barracks@hotmail.com

Sincerely - Stephen (Roscoe) Rosser
